What is a hybrid exactly?
In the inevitable and ever necessary push for sustainability and the reduction of environmental impact in the auto industry, Hybrid cars have been front and centre as a stepping stone when it comes to reducing emissions and electrifying the future of personal transport.
With innovative combinations of internal combustion engines and a mixture of electric motors to power the wheels, these vehicles have pushed us towards a better future, but that’s not been at the expense of comfort, performance, or safety. Let’s get into how Mazda in particular has entered the market in our own very unique fashion.
The MX-30 in general
Let’s start with style and comfort. We’ve gone for a unique experience in style with sustainability in mind when it comes to the Mazda MX-30 Hybrid. From sustainably sourced cork centre console lining, to our comfy faux leather chairs with zero organic solvents used in production (and heated options available), to inner door fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles, we’re not just trying to reduce your emissions, we’re aiming to make one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles available from production on upwards.
Featuring our innovative E-SKYACTIV G ENGINE, which is a 114kW/200Nm 2.0 litre petrol four cylinder engine, combined with our M Hybrid Technology that utilises a Lithium-ion battery for vastly improved vehicle efficiency. You’ll also find an 8.8 inch console display for Mazda connect, which helps you know about the expected weather, the state of traffic on your journey, places of interest nearby for fund and/or useful detours and much more. What are some of the benefits of a hybrid in general?
The obvious one here would be reduced running costs. Hybrid cars consume less fuel, which in the current economic climate is a major plus and of course less fuel consumption means less emissions.
You can also expect to enjoy a quieter and smoother ride, with the electric engines taking out some of the noise of a conventional petrol only vehicle. Despite this however, you’ll also find the increased level of torque and acceleration to be very noticeable as only electric (or partially electric) powered cars can offer.
Another major benefit with hybrid cars is that they tend to cost less than their fully electric counterparts. Prices are subject to a range of extras, variations and whether they’re new or used, but an MX-30 Hybrid can cost anywhere from $35,000-$40,000 compared to the roughly $65,000 an all electric model would likely cost you. So, not a bad way to step into the more sustainable range for less!
It’s probably also worth noting that the petrol powered engine in a hybrid car can keep the electric batteries powered up, so any concerns you might have about driving range per charge, the amount of time it might take to charge, or needing to stop the car to charge up simply don’t need to be worried about.
Who does the Hybrid version suit better than the Electric model?
While the all electric Mazda MX-30 is great for zipping around for a busy life in cities or towns, the hybrid is not limited when it comes to range. If you’re someone who likes to go visit family and friends out of town, enjoy a bit of camping, get around for a bit of sightseeing or just get out for a longer drive for the sake of it, then the hybrid requires less planning around how long or far you can go between drives before you have to find a place to charge your car’s engine.
Let’s be clear here, we firmly stand by all of our electric vehicles, particularly as EV charging infrastructure around the country continues to improve along with performance and the vehicles themselves that we will continue to release in the future. But if all of the above is of concern to you in the immediate future, then a hybrid vehicle might be a better fit for you for now. Make no mistake about it, all electric is the future, but if you’re looking to buy a car in Brisbane, there are reasons to consider a hybrid in the current environment.
